Last month, I almost crashed my car trying to take a picture of a rainbow.* Rainbows are just so startlingly beautiful it’s hard to look away. Even while driving.
Then the other day, I read this:
Who is like you, LORD God Almighty? You, LORD, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you. Psalm 89:8
I immediately thought of this:
And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. Revelation 4:3
A rainbow, when seen from above, is actually a raincircle.
Faithfulness surrounds God. A rainbow encircles God. The rainbow is a visual cue to remember God’s faithfulness.
Not always easy to do when in the middle of a storm. Only after the storm passes can we see that the sun was there all along.
Same with God. He sometimes seems to have gone missing in the dark clouds and pelting rain.
The rainbow reminds us that He never left. He was faithful, even when we did not trust that He would be.
It’s humbling when you rail at God and pitch a fit in the storm, distrusting He is at work on your behalf; then the storm ends and your personal “rainbow” appears, signaling He was there all along. “You have been faithful when I have been faithless, O unending fountain of grace.” (Lyrics from a song I sang years ago, fully owning those words.)
Learning to trust God, who sees above and beyond what we can see, is just what this private pilot discovered during her early days of flying. She concludes her humorous stories with more serious observations you won’t quickly forget. I heard this broadcast over 8 months ago and love sharing it with you now.
Listen, laugh and be uplifted:
Rooted In Truth: Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments. Deut. 7:9 The LORD’S loving kindnesses indeed never cease, For His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23 If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself. 2 Timothy 2:13 Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of one speaking. Ezekiel 1:28
Growing In Love: Show up. Be a faithful friend. In sunny skies and rainy days. In season and out. Share in their joys and sorrows. Remember to call or text on a regular basis. Feed your friendships. With whom do you need to resume contact? Forgive those friends who haven’t been as faithful or as attentive as you would like. Take the initiative; don’t wait for them to make the first move. Overlook their weaknesses. Be an embodiment of “God-is-faithful-even-when-we-are-not.” Who knows, you may be their personal “rainbow.”
